On November 7th,theSecretary-General of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO),Mr.Sergio Mujica, visited Guangxi Universityandattendedthe international standardizationeventthemed,“A Shared Vision for a Better World”.During the event, heunveiledthe secretariat of the Subcommittee on Steel-Concrete Composite andHybridStructures(ISO/TC 71/SC 9),and delivered a keynote speech. Lu Xinning,a member of StandingCommitteeof the CPC Guangxi Committee,as well asViceGovernorof GuangxiZhuangAutonomous Region,Li Yubing,DeputyDirector-Generalofthe Department ofStandards and Innovationunder theState Administration for Market Regulation as well asChineseRepresentativeofISO Technical Management Bureau, Cui Jun,Deputy Secretary-General oftheGovernmentof GuangxiZhuangAutonomous Region, Li Ze,Party Secretary andDirector-Generalof the Market Supervision BureauofGuangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Li Guozhong,Secretary oftheCPCGXUCommitteeattended this themed event.The event was chaired by Han Linhai, President of Guangxi University, and Chairman of the ISO Subcommittee on Steel-Concrete Composite andHybridStructures.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the YulinConferenceHall ofthe GXUJunwuBuilding.Mr.Mujica,along withLu Xinning, Li Yubing, Cui Jun, Li Ze, and Li Guozhong,jointlyunveiled the plaquefortheSecretariat of the Subcommittee on Steel-Concrete Composite andHybridStructures(ISO/TC 71/SC 9).Mr.Mujicapraised thesubcommittee’s efforts, emphasizing the importance ofthe official release and implementation of the international standard ISO 16521:2024,which focuses on the design of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) hybrid structures. He highlighted that this standardis significantfor the scientificpromotionandglobalapplication ofconcrete-filled steel tubularstructures worldwide.Mujicaalsoexpressed hishope that the subcommittee will continue to play an active role indeveloping and promotinginternational standards byharnessing the expertise ofprofessionals worldwide. Han Linhairemarked that as thehost of thesubcommittee’ssecretariat, Guangxi Universityis committed to fulfilling itsresponsibilities. He pledged tocollaborate with experts and scholarsgloballytoadvancethe internationalization of standards in this field, and contribute to theconstructionof global civil engineering infrastructure.

Before the unveiling ceremony,Mr.Mujica delivered a keynote speechentitled,“International Standards: A Shared Vision for a Better World”totheaudience ofover 200 facultymembersand studentsfrom Guangxi University and otherschools.He alsocommunicated and interactedwith the audience onvarioustopics, includingwaysto participate in thedevelopmentof ISO international standards, talent cultivationbased oninternational standardization, and therole ofstandardizationin reducingcarbon emission.

Beforetheevent,Mr.Mujica visited andtoured the secretariat of the Steel-Concrete Composite andHybridStructures Subcommittee (ISO/TC 71/SC 9).

In April of thisyear, the ISO Technical Management Bureau, the highest technical managementauthorityofISO,passed Resolution No. 45of2024, officially approving the establishment of the Subcommittee on Steel-ConcreteComposite andHybridStructures (ISO/TC71/SC9) under the Technical Committee on Concrete,Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete (ISO/TC71). Thissubcommitteemarks the firstinitiativeby ISOfocusingonsafetyin the primarystructures ofmajorinfrastructure. TheISO/TC71Technical Committeeappointed Han Linhai as thefirstchairman of the subcommittee.
