On September 13, GXU hosted the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Freshmen Welcome Event for International Studentsat the small theater on the first floor of theUniversityStudent Activity Center. Xiao Jianzhuang,Vice President of GXU, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Xiao Jianzhuangsharedthe originsand cultural memoriesof the Mid-Autumn Festivalwiththe international students. Heencouragedthem toseize the moment, strive forward, immerse themselves in Chinese culture and take on active roles as"citizendiplomats", facilitating communication between different cultureswiththeiryouth and wisdom.

During the performancesegment, teachersfromthe International Student ManagementandService Center introduced theoriginsand customs of the Mid-Autumn Festivalto the international students, sparkingtheir stronginterest in traditional Chinese culture.Thai students’danceandMyanmarstudents’recitation of ancient Chinese poetryreceivedenthusiasticapplause from the audience.Inthefollowingteapartyand garden-strollactivities,thestudentstasted Mid-Autumn foods such asmooncakes and fruits,and participated ingameslikeriddle-guessing,lanternmaking,and papercutting. This event not onlyallowed theinternational studentsto experience thecharm oftraditional Chinese culture, but alsoprovided them with a platform forinteraction andcommunication, fosteringcultural exchange between China and other countries.

The participants of the event included representativesfromthe Student Affairs Office, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, International Student ManagementandService Center, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School ofChinese Language and Literature,School ofChina-ASEANEconomic Institute(School of Economics/China-ASEAN Financial CooperationInstitute), facultymembersfromthe International Student ManagementandService Center, as well as 200international students.
