School of Marine Sciences at Guangxi University won the first prize of Guangxi Higher Education (Undergraduate) Autonomous Region Level Teaching Achievement Awards

According to the“Notice the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on the Announcement of the Results of the 2023 Guangxi Higher Education Region-level Teaching Achievement Assessment”,The project“Integration of Scientific Research and Education in Marine Science for the SCS and Island Coral Reefs: Constructing and Practising a Model for Cultivating Marine Science Research Talents”led by ProfessorYu Kefu and other team members of our college won the first prize in the“undergraduateteachingachievement”group in 2023.

Based onthat projectfirst proposedin Sep 2014, anewstudyplan forBachelor ofMarineSciencewasexplored and designed, which experienced3 years (2014-2017) of exploration and more than 5 years (2017-2023) of practice, ultimately achievingremarkable results:

Supported the construction of the only world-class discipline in Guangxi

Suppliedmore than 500 research graduates in marine science field with a good professional background in coral reefs.

Established a unique marine sciencetalent development modeland base, serving China's major needs for the development and utilization of islands and reefs in the SCS.

In the future,wewill further enhancethe reform of education and teachingindepth and breadth,aiming tocultivate morehigh-quality professionalsin marine science, tomeet the needs of social and economic development, tosupport the national strategy of“seeking national prosperity and strength from the ocean”.
