About Us
“Blue Dream”Teamof Scientific ExpeditionwasestablishedinSeptember of2014. As ofJune 2024,it hadconducted:
98comprehensive scientific surveys on thehighseas and coral reefsof theIndo-Pacific and South China Sea(SCS), with a total of 493 people.
1644 daysscientific expedition was lasted,withrangeof58,049 nautical miles (about 107,506 km).Along-termsystematic ecological surveyofthe ecological status and evolution of coral reefs in theSCS(across16 latitudes)has been carried out, gaining:
7, 892minutes ofecological survey videos
53, 401samples and close-up photos
sample collectionWehaveacquiredover 10-yeardata of coral reef ecosystemsin the SCSat large spatial and long time scales, andbuild uponthelargestCoralReefSampleLibraryof China, large in number, diverse in variety, and wide in coverage, which couldprovidestrong supportto advanceour knowledge on coral reef ecosystemsin China.

Ourteammembers haveparticipated inthe NSFCOpen Research Cruise in the Eastern Indian Ocean (2023and2024)and the Western Pacific (2023), covingthe Bay of Bengal, the Eastern Indian Ocean, the Java Sea, the Luzon Strait, the Taiwan Strait, the Philippine Sea and the Western PacificOcean.
354 cruises and fixed-point scientific expeditions have been conducted.
Nearly 3,000 biological-environmental-geological samples have been collected.
Theseprovide key data and samplesto revealtheFormationMechanisms andEcologicalEffects of theWorld'sCoralReefBiodiversityCenter (TheCoral Triangle).
We alsoboarded the "Deep Sea Warrior" and "Struggler"activemanned submersiblesto the“Zhongnanhai”(meaning “middle and southern seas”) in the SCSto survey cold-water coral reefs, witha maximum diving depth of 4194.8m,obtaining:
More than 6,000 minutes of deep-sea ecological and geological images.
More than 400 samples of various typesof samples, including cold-water corals, benthos, large wood falls, and sedimentsin the deep sea.
Above theseobservationaldata and sampleaccumulativelyprovide the latest researchmaterials for theexplorationto the“Darwinian subsidence theory”and theresponse patterns of cold-water corals to global changes.
