Our college held the 2024PhDdissertation defenseofGuangxi University

On May 22, Han Minwei, a PhD student attended the2024 PhD dissertation defenseofGuangxi University.TheChairman of the defense committee is Professor Zeng Yongping from South China University of Technology, and theotherdefense membersincludesProfessor Wu Zhiqiang(Guilin University of Technology), Researcher Xu Xiangrong(the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS), Researcher Dan Li(Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS), Professor Hu Baoqing(Nanning Normal University), and Professor He Zhengguo(Guangxi University).

According to the agenda, Han Minwei reported his dissertation titled "Environmental behavior, source-sink mechanism and ecological impact of PAHs in coral reef ecosystemoftheSCS". Hesystematicallyexplained thebackground and significance, research foundationand research gap between China andabroad, andscientific problemshesolved.Hedemonstrated the research work andresults carried out during his master's and doctoral studies.

The defense committee members listened carefully toHan Minwei's report, asked questions, exchanged views and made suggestions on the relevant contents of the thesis. Han Minwei answered and provided additional information as needed. TheDefenseCommittee believes that Han Minwei’s research topic is novel, with clear research objectives, rich content, solid theoretical foundations, rigorous design and objective and detailed data. They acknowledged his significant achievements during his degree studies and confirmed he had successfully completed the requirementsofPhDstudy plan. The defense agendawasrigorous and standardized. At the same time, faculty and students ofthecollege also came to the scene to observe and engage in discussions, whichdemonstratedthe excellent academic atmosphere ofour organization.

Since its establishment in 2014, the college has graduated8batches of PhD students.Since Han Minwei entered theGuanxi University, he has published 7 SCI papers as the first author, including 4 papers in SCI Q1journals (1 cover article, top), 1 paper in SCI Q2journal(top), and 1 paper papers in SCI Q2 and Q3journals.During graduate studies, Dr. Han Minwei participated in 16 comprehensive marine scientific expeditions, totaling 312 daysand over10,000 nautical milesvoyage. These expeditions coveredGuangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Fujian, the Xisha IslandsandZhongsha Islands in theSCS, the Taiwan Strait, the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea, the Strait of Malacca, the Equatorwaters, and the Eastern Indian Ocean. He obtained more than 740 samples and 12 sets of hydrological and meteorological observation data.In addition, Han Minwei has won 21 individual awards and honors, as well as 3 collective titles, including the National Scholarship for Doctoral Students, the Baogang Scholarship, the Guangxi University President Scholarship, OutstandingGraduates of Guangxi University, "Tao Jianming Scholarship"of Guangxi University, Outstanding Student of Guangxi University and Outstanding Student LeaderofGuangxi University.Thissuccessful completion of the PhD dissertation defenseagaindemonstratedtheSchool of Marine Sciences's capabilities intalent cultivation, showcased thehigh-levelresearch excellence andalso laid astronger foundation and set higher goals for the futuregraduatestraining.
