Introduction to the School of Physical Educationof Guangxi University
The School of Physical Educationof Guangxi Universitywas established in April 2011,evolving from theformerPhysical Education Teaching Department of Guangxi University. The school’s responsibilities includetheinstructionof public physical education courses, thecultivationofundergraduates and postgraduatesin the field of sports withtwoprograms, theadministrationof mass sports on campus, and thecoachingand management of high-level sports teams. Theschoolis comprisedofsixinstructionalandacademicdepartments, includingsmallballsports,bigball(team ball sports),comprehensivesports,dancingandmartialarts,human sports science,andsports humanitiesand sociology. In terms of sports facilities, there arethreecomprehensive stadiumsandrelatedsupportingfacilitieslocatedin thewest,east, andnorth campusesrespectively,covering atotal area of 114,000 square meters.
The school hasa total of 55 full-timeteaching and academic staff, includingtwoprofessors, 17 associate professors,onepostdoctoralresearcher who has completed the tenure,ten individuals holding doctoral qualifications,twodoctoralcandidates,andonepostdoctoral fellow.The faculty includes11 senior coaches and national referees,oneyouth sports expertinGuangxi,twocertifiednational psychological counselor,twoholders of the Health Professional Qualification certificate,onenational entrepreneurship training lecturer, andfivedual-qualifiedteachers.
Theschoolenrolls undergraduate students majoring in athletic training andpostgraduatestudents(master’s level)majoring in physical education. 285 students are currently enrolled in theschool, including 177 undergraduates and 73 postgraduates. In the past three years, the employment rate of graduates has been above 90%, which is among the highest in the university.
Since its establishmentovera decade ago, theschoolhas enrolled 401 undergraduatestudentsintheathletic trainingprogram, 180 undergraduatestudentsinthesocial sportsprogram,sevenpostgraduatestudents(master’s level)inthepublic sports managementprogram, and 123postgraduatestudents(master’level)inthephysical educationprogram,demonstrating the school’scontribution to the cultivation of sports talentat national level.Theschoolhascontributed tothe university’s receipt of commendations, including the"Excellent Higher EducationInstitution in Implementing the Regulations on School Sports Work Nationwide",the"National Award for Popularizing the Aerobic Exercise Standards",andthe"National Advanced Unit in Mass Sports".In 2023, theschoolwas honored as “Guangxi University Outstanding ContributionSubdivisionfor Undergraduate Education Teaching Audit and Evaluation”,oneteacher was honored as“Outstanding Contribution Individual”andseventeachers as "Advanced Individuals". The postgraduateprogram(Master)successfully passed the Ministry of Education's verification,receiving unanimous support fromall 24 expertsinthe National Physical Education Graduate Education Steering Committee. Thisindicatesfull recognition of our work and achievements.
In recent years, theschoolhas achievednotable successin competitive sportsat all levels. 2023 to date, theschoolhas wonfourworld championships(includingtwochampions won byLanXingyuat the31stWorld University Summer Games Men's Team and Ring,onechampion won byLiYanronginfreestyle wrestlingatWorld U20 International Wrestling Championships,onechampion won byGuanHanzhiinMen's 200-meterfin swimmingatthe 23rd World Webbing Championships and broke the world record),twoAsian champions,onethird-place (LanXingyuinthe 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games gymnastics competition), 16 national champions, 19nationalrunners-up,and12nationalthird place.QinWenxu, a2019undergraduate whoenlisted in the army,won the men's 90-meter beach running championatthe 12thWater Rescue World Championships, achievinga “Zero breakthrough” ingold medalsforthe People's Liberation Army in this event,washonored with a“First-class merit”. The Cheerleading Team won the second runner-up of the Skill Cheerleading All-Female Elite Group of the Second World University Cheerleading Championships in 2024. The men's basketball team successfully reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 NationalCompetition, and the men's and women's basketball teams both reached the 2024 CUBAL National Tournament.
Theschoolattaches great importance tomass sports on campus, and has successfully hostedover100national and regionalcompetitions since 2018.In 2023, theschoolsuccessfully hosted the badminton events of the 1st National Student (Youth) Games, and the related workreceived affirmation and praise from the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport of China, and leaders at the regional level, with a number of teachers and students beinghonored and awarded.In 2024, theschoolhosted the “Meet the Future” YouthSports Skills Series - Guangxi Basketball Championships, which was divided into three levels of competitions: grass-roots competitions, finals and national invitational tournaments,with an extensive scale that includes 623 teams and 4,402 players participating in 1,505 matches, bringing a significant impact nationwide.
